Herol - my mountain retreat is a small, family-run mountain hotel in South Tyrol. What makes us special is our secluded location at 1,600 metres: no immediate neighbours, no through traffic, and a unique, unobstructed view of the Dolomites.

Personal hospitality, our farm-to-table cuisine, produce from our own farm, welcoming rooms, two private chalets and the tranquillity of the mountains make Herol a retreat for couples, food lovers and nature enthusiasts. You will not find crowds or a conventional hotel entertainment programme here, but plenty of space for peace, activity and genuine relaxation.

Herol is personally run by the Federspieler family. Anna and Silvia, the third generation, look after the hotel, chalets and associated mountain farm together with their parents Isolde and Alois and the entire team.

Herol is ideal for couples, guests seeking peace and quiet, food lovers and nature enthusiasts who appreciate a small, personally run retreat away from large hotel complexes. Our secluded setting also offers privacy and freedom for workations, small retreats, weddings and exclusive stays.

Guests looking for a traditional wellness resort, an extensive entertainment programme or a hotel directly beside a large ski area will find a deliberately different holiday concept at Herol: tranquillity, nature, personal encounters and authentic South Tyrolean cuisine.

Herol is situated at 1,600 metres above the village of Lüsen in South Tyrol, directly on the Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture. It is one of Europe’s largest high alpine pastures, the second-largest alpine pasture in South Tyrol after the Seiser Alm, and can be reached on foot from the hotel.

Our address is Berg 1, 39040 Lüsen. We are approximately 30 minutes by car from Brixen. Walks, hikes and nature experiences begin right on our doorstep.

Yes. Herol is surrounded by nature above the Lüsen Valley, with no immediate neighbours. Alpine meadows, forests, tranquillity and an unobstructed view of the Dolomites surround the hotel. There is no through traffic and none of the bustle of a village or ski resort.

Despite its secluded setting, Herol is strategically located for exploring South Tyrol and the Dolomites. You can enjoy complete tranquillity while still having many options for day trips.

Yes. Many regions of South Tyrol can be explored from Herol on a day trip. Brixen, the Pustertal Valley, Villnöss Valley, Val Gardena and several well-known areas of the Dolomites are accessible by car.

For an exceptional nature experience, however, you do not need to drive anywhere: the Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture is accessible on foot directly from the hotel. Herol therefore combines the peace of a secluded hotel with a convenient base for exploring South Tyrol.

Brixen is approximately 30 minutes from Herol, while Puez-Odle Nature Park can be reached in about 40 minutes. Villnöss Valley, Val Gardena, Bruneck and Bolzano are each roughly one hour away by car. Many well-known places and trailheads in the Dolomites can therefore be visited comfortably on a day trip.

At the same time, hikes on the Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture begin right on our doorstep.

Thanks to our secluded location at 1,600 metres and the low level of light pollution, the night sky around Herol is especially impressive. On clear evenings, you can watch the stars from the terraces, the meadows surrounding the hotel and the private outdoor spaces of the chalets.

At Chalet Vista, the bed can even be moved outside onto the terrace for a truly special night beneath the stars.

The main hotel has 12 rooms and suites, accommodating up to 28 adults. Up to six additional beds are also available.

Herol is complemented by two private chalets, Chalet Vista and Chalet Dolomites, which accommodate a maximum of eight guests in total. This allows Herol to remain intentionally small, personal and pleasantly intimate.

Our East/West Panorama Rooms are ideal for two guests who prefer a cosy, uncomplicated stay. The larger South Panorama Rooms offer more space and a particularly beautiful view. Our suites have two bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a lovely roof terrace.

Guests seeking greater privacy, a private kitchen, a fireplace and their own wellness area will find a very special retreat in the two Herol Chalets.

Our two chalets combine the privacy of a holiday apartment with selected services from the neighbouring hotel. Each chalet measures 65 square metres and features a generous private outdoor area, a fully equipped kitchen, a fireplace, a private outdoor sauna and a Hot & Cold Tube.

The chalets offer peace, a unique mountain view and space for a truly personal break. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel can be added depending on the season and availability.

Both chalets measure 65 square metres and are ideal for a couple or a family. Each has a fully equipped kitchen, freestanding fireplace, bathroom with rain shower, private outdoor sauna, outdoor rain shower and Hot & Cold Tube.

Chalet Dolomites - an alpine loft atmosphere and private garden

Chalet Dolomites is located on the ground floor and accommodates two to five guests. Swiss pine, clay plaster and lime plaster around the fireplace create a warm, natural atmosphere.

The open-plan living and sleeping area has a loft-style layout. Curtains can be drawn around the double bed for greater privacy. A cosy sleeping alcove with a second double bed provides another sleeping area. An additional bed is prepared in the living area for a fifth guest.

Its special highlight is the private garden of more than 150 square metres.

Chalet Vista - minimalist design with the view at centre stage

Chalet Vista is located on the first floor and accommodates two to four guests. Local ash wood, clean lines and understated design draw attention to the surrounding mountain scenery.

The living and sleeping areas are separate. For families, the daybed in the living area is prepared as an additional children’s bed. The chalet’s defining feature is its double bed, which can be moved directly onto the private terrace of more than 100 square metres for a night in the open air.

Good to know: both chalets are ideal for two guests or a family. When occupied by more than two guests, the sleeping alcove or parts of the living area are used as additional sleeping areas. The chalets are therefore less suitable for several couples who require separate bedrooms.

Yes. Both Chalet Vista and Chalet Dolomites have a private outdoor sauna and their own Hot & Cold Tube, allowing you to enjoy your personal wellness area at any time and in complete privacy.

The spacious terraces also offer mountain tranquillity and an unobstructed view of the Dolomites.

At Chalet Vista, the bed can be moved outside onto the private terrace. In suitable weather, you can sleep directly beneath the stars and wake the following morning to mountain views.

As Herol is far from larger towns and strong sources of artificial light, conditions for stargazing are particularly favourable.

Yes. Chalet Vista and Chalet Dolomites are open throughout the year and can be booked independently of the hotel’s seasonal opening dates.

From November until 26 December, and from mid-March until the end of April, we offer special workation rates for longer stays. The longer you stay, the greater the saving. Fully equipped kitchens and generous living spaces make it easy to combine focused work with peace, nature and relaxation.

During these periods, the chalets are offered on a self-catering basis. Our Hofatelier stocks a selection of typical South Tyrolean specialities and regional products, including dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen and other delicacies, so you can cater for yourself with ease.

Yes. The quiet, secluded setting, generous living areas, fully equipped kitchens and fast fibre-optic Wi-Fi provide ideal conditions for combining focused work with nature and relaxation.

After work, the private outdoor sauna, Hot & Cold Tube, spacious terrace and hiking trails around Herol invite you to unwind.

Our workation offers are available from November until 26 December and from mid-March until the end of April:

Offers are subject to availability and the conditions stated in the individual quotation. During these periods, you stay on a self-catering basis. Selected farm products and typical South Tyrolean foods are available from our Hofatelier.

Chalet guests will find a selection of products from our farm, regional produce and typical South Tyrolean foods for convenient self-catering. Depending on availability, these include dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen, jams, juices and other selected specialities.

The Hofatelier is freely accessible to our chalet guests. Products are purchased through our honesty bar: simply note down what you have taken.

Breakfast is served daily from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Enjoy handmade, homemade and farm-made products, freshly baked rolls from the bakery in Lüsen, South Tyrolean cheeses and cold cuts, egg dishes and other regional delicacies.

Many ingredients come from South Tyrol and some directly from our own farm. Breakfast is served in our welcoming dining room with mountain views.

Your host Isolde and head chef Benni, together with their team, take care of your culinary experience. Our multi-course farm-to-table menu is served from 7:00 pm.

Many ingredients come directly from our farm or selected local producers, including beef from our own cattle, potatoes and oats from our fields, and milk and dairy products from nearby dairies. Please inform us of allergies or intolerances well in advance.

At Herol, farm-to-table means that many foods travel only a very short distance from the farm to your plate. Beef, potatoes, oats and various meat and sausage products come directly from our own mountain farm. Wherever possible, we source other ingredients from selected producers in South Tyrol and the surrounding area.

Your host Isolde and head chef Benni turn these products into honest regional cuisine with contemporary influences. This allows us to know the origin of many ingredients and offer our guests an authentic taste of South Tyrol.

We are happy to prepare vegetarian dishes with advance notice. We can also accommodate a vegan diet and certain intolerances, including gluten or lactose, if you let us know in good time before arrival.

As our kitchen is small and personally organised, advance notice helps us prepare your stay as well as possible.

Yes. You can book your stay with breakfast instead of half board. When breakfast only is booked, 20% is deducted from the half-board rate.

From April to November, Wednesday is our South Tyrol discovery day and a rest day for our family and employees. Dinner is not served, while the breakfast buffet and bar operate as usual.

The free evening is an excellent opportunity to discover restaurants, mountain huts and culinary venues in Lüsen or Brixen. We are happy to make personal recommendations. A credit of 20% of the daily rate is applied for the dinner not served. On Wednesdays, the sauna remains open until 10:00 pm.

Whether you would like fragrant organic, fair-trade Caroma coffee, a glass of South Tyrolean wine or a refreshing Aperol, our hotel bar, lounge and sun terrace offer the right drink for the occasion.

These spaces are ideal for relaxing, reading, enjoying an aperitif or spending time together with a unique view of the Dolomites.

The hotel’s small wellness area includes a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, salt steam bath and relaxation room. The focus is on tranquillity, warmth and recovery after a day in the mountains.

Herol is deliberately not a large wellness resort. Nature outside our door remains our most important space for relaxation. Both chalets also have a private outdoor sauna and their own Hot & Cold Tube.

The hotel wellness area is open daily from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm. On Wednesdays from April to November, the sauna remains open until 10:00 pm. Access is reserved for guests aged 12 and over.

The private outdoor saunas and Hot & Cold Tubes at the chalets are exclusively available to the guests of the respective chalet and may be used individually.

Herol is deliberately not a large wellness resort. The focus is on our quiet, secluded location, personal hospitality, our connection to the mountain farm, farm-to-table cuisine and direct experiences in nature.

The small wellness area complements your stay. The real space for relaxation is the expanse of the Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture, the view of the Dolomites and the tranquillity surrounding the hotel.

The hotel wellness area is reserved for guests aged 12 and over, helping us maintain a peaceful atmosphere for everyone seeking relaxation.

Guests staying in the chalets have their own private wellness area.

Cosy bathrobes are provided free of charge for the entire duration of your stay.

For sustainability reasons, we do not provide disposable spa slippers in the rooms. High-quality felt slippers made from pure South Tyrolean mountain sheep’s wool can be purchased at reception. They are made by the small Alpine Wool Handcraft Haunold by Zacher workshop in Innichen and are comfortable, durable and ideal for continued use at home. The price is EUR 29.00 per pair.

Your room is available from 2:00 pm on the day of arrival. If you expect to arrive after 6:00 pm, please send us a brief message.

On departure day, we kindly ask you to vacate your room by 10:00 am.

Yes. Parking is available directly at Herol. The chalets also have underground parking with an electric vehicle charging point. A lift connects the underground garage to the chalets.

An electric vehicle charging point is also available to guests who are not staying in the chalets.

Herol is not fully accessible. There is no lift to the guest rooms in the main building, which can only be reached by stairs.

The chalets can be reached by lift from the underground garage. The lift cabin measures approximately 85 × 135 centimetres. As individual requirements vary considerably, we recommend that guests with reduced mobility contact us before booking. We will be happy to clarify whether the layout is suitable for your specific needs.

Yes. Fast fibre-optic Wi-Fi is available in the main building, guest rooms, wellness area and both chalets. Despite our secluded location, Herol is therefore also well suited to workations, video calls and longer working stays.

Please note that Wi-Fi is not available at Villa Heidi.

Yes, although our secluded location requires a little planning. Travel by train to Brixen, then continue by public bus to Lüsen.

Current bus connections and departure times are available at any time in our digital Herol Guest App.

By prior arrangement, we will collect you from Lüsen free of charge. Alternatively, we can arrange a direct transfer from Brixen railway station for EUR 50.00.

We are happy to send you the ODLES South Tyrol Guest Pass - Slow Dolomites Card before arrival, as it is already valid on your travel day. Many walks begin at our doorstep and the Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture can be reached on foot, so you will not need a car every day during your stay.

Regular public buses connect Lüsen with Brixen. In summer, a seasonal minibus also connects the Herol car park, just a few metres from the hotel, with Lüsen and the Zumis hiking car park.

As timetables and seasonal connections may vary, we are happy to provide information about the current options.

Yes. During your stay, you receive the digital South Tyrol Guest Pass - Slow Dolomites Card from ODLES. We can send it before your arrival because it is already valid on your travel day.

The pass includes South Tyrol’s regional trains and scheduled buses, as well as selected public cable cars, without the need for an additional ticket. Admission to the natural swimming pond in Lüsen is also included. Further services and benefits in Lüsen and Villnöss may be available depending on the season.

The personal Guest Pass must be activated or validated via QR code before each journey.

Yes. Our digital Herol Guest App contains all the essential information for your stay, from current bus connections and departure times to excursion tips and practical information about Herol and the surrounding area.

The app can be used before arrival, requires no download and opens directly in the browser on a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Yes. Admission to the natural swimming pond in Lüsen is included with the ODLES South Tyrol Guest Pass - Slow Dolomites Card.

The idyllic, naturally designed pond offers a refreshing summer swim without chemical water treatment. Opening hours depend on the season and weather.

The Luson and Rodengo Alpine Pasture is one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in South Tyrol and offers an extensive network of trails for hiking, winter hiking and cross-country skiing. It is accessible on foot directly from Herol and offers numerous easy hiking trails as well as varied routes for different abilities.

Along the way, you can enjoy impressive views of the Dolomites and Zillertal Alps. Traditional staffed mountain huts invite you to stop for South Tyrolean dishes. The wide-open landscape and peaceful paths make the pasture a special place for nature, exercise and slowing down.

Yes. Numerous walks and hikes begin right on our doorstep. The Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture is accessible on foot from Herol.

It offers pleasant walking paths, easy alpine hikes and longer routes, accompanied by impressive views of the Dolomites and Zillertal Alps. Traditional staffed huts invite you to stop along the way. You can leave your car behind and set off directly from the hotel into the mountains.

Yes. Subject to availability, e-mountain bikes with Bosch motors can be hired at Herol, allowing you to explore the mountain landscape around Lüsen directly from the hotel.

The daily rental price is EUR 54.00. If you would first like to try an e-mountain bike, we offer a 60-minute introductory ride for EUR 19.00. As only a limited number of e-bikes are available, we recommend booking early. We are happy to suggest suitable routes.

Thanks to our location at 1,600 metres, the landscape around Herol is usually beautifully snow-covered in winter: a true winter wonderland of white alpine meadows, silent forests and impressive views of the Dolomites.

Winter at Herol is all about gentle winter tourism away from the bustle of major ski areas. The surroundings of the hotel and the Lüsen and Rodeneck Alpine Pasture offer many opportunities for winter walking and snowshoeing. Cross-country skiing, tobogganing and ski touring are also possible nearby, depending on snow conditions.

Despite our peaceful, secluded and snow-covered location, Herol remains easy to reach in winter. The access road is regularly cleared, allowing for a straightforward journey into the snowy mountain landscape.

Guests who would like a classic day on the slopes can comfortably reach several ski areas by car. Herol is ideal for experiencing winter consciously and close to nature: crisp mountain air, peaceful walks through the snow, followed by regional farm-to-table cuisine and the warmth of the sauna.

A small beginner and children’s lift in Lüsen is approximately ten minutes away by car and is ideal for a first experience on skis.

The Gitschberg Jochtal ski area is around 30 minutes away. Val Gardena and Kronplatz are each approximately one hour away and offer a wide range of options for a varied day of skiing.

Herol is deliberately located away from the large ski resorts and is therefore particularly suited to guests seeking winter tranquillity, snowy landscapes and nature experiences away from the busy slopes.

Dogs are welcome in selected rooms and the chalets with prior notice. The hotel charge is EUR 25.00 per dog per day. Separate prices apply to chalet stays due to the additional cleaning required.

Dogs are not permitted in the dining room or wellness area. During meals, they may accompany their owners in the conservatory or, in summer, on the terrace. Dogs are also welcome in the bar. Please bring your own blanket or dog bed.

As grazing animals may be present around the hotel, we ask guests to keep their dogs under responsible control outdoors.

Our farm is home to several animals, including approximately 10 to 15 calves, our horses Kira and Blitz, and several cats.

The animals are cared for in the morning and evening. Visits to the stable often lead to interesting conversations with farmer Luis. Please note that some animals graze on the alpine pasture in summer and may not always be at the farm.

Children sharing their parents’ room receive the following discounts:

• Ages 0 to 2: 100% discount
• Ages 2 to 6: 80% discount
• Ages 6 to 10: 60% discount
• Ages 11 to 15: 50% discount
• From age 15 in an additional bed: 20% discount

Children under 14 do not pay the local tourist tax.

To confirm your reservation, we require a confirmatory deposit of 30% of the agreed total price. It must be paid within the deadline stated in your quotation or booking confirmation.

Please state the name under which the reservation was made as the payment reference. The booking becomes binding once the deposit has been received and we have issued written confirmation.

The deposit is deducted in full from your final bill. In the event of cancellation, it is offset against the cancellation fee due under our cancellation policy. For a free cancellation up to 30 days before arrival, the deposit is refunded or, on request, credited towards a future stay.

Different deposit, payment and cancellation terms may apply to special offers, non-refundable rates, groups, retreats, weddings and exclusive bookings. The terms in your personal quotation or booking confirmation apply.

We accept cash, bank transfer and all major credit and debit cards. A reservation is binding only after you have received written confirmation by email.

Hotel rates are per person per day and include half board and the listed inclusive services. The local tourist tax of EUR 3.00 per person per day is charged separately and paid on site. Children under 14 do not pay the tourist tax.

Chalet prices and included services may vary according to the season, board basis and offer booked. All binding prices and services are stated in your personal quotation or booking confirmation.

Sometimes plans change. If you are unable to take up your stay, please notify us in writing as early as possible.

The following conditions apply to standard bookings of our hotel rooms, suites and chalets:

• Up to 30 days before arrival: free cancellation
• 29 to 15 days before arrival: 30% of the agreed total price
• 14 to 8 days before arrival: 50% of the agreed total price
• 7 to 3 days before arrival: 80% of the agreed total price
• From 2 days before arrival, on the day of arrival or in the event of a no-show: 100% of the agreed total price
• In the event of late arrival or early departure: 100% of the price for unused holiday days

Any deposit already paid is offset against the applicable cancellation fee. In the event of a free cancellation, the deposit is refunded or, on request, credited towards a future stay.

Different cancellation and payment terms may apply to special offers, non-refundable rates, workation stays, groups, retreats, weddings and exclusive bookings. The terms in your personal quotation or booking confirmation apply.

We recommend taking out travel cancellation insurance to protect you in the event of illness or other unforeseen circumstances.

Yes. Our online voucher tool allows you to select, pay for and print your personal Herol voucher directly. It is also ideal as a last-minute gift for anyone longing for peace, nature and a special break in the South Tyrolean mountains.

Various voucher designs and individual value vouchers are available to create conveniently from home.

Yes. Herol is well suited to small yoga retreats with a personal atmosphere. Our yoga room is equipped for groups of approximately ten people, with mats, blocks, straps and meditation cushions. In good weather, sessions can also take place on the terrace or in nature.

Accommodation, breakfast, farm-to-table dinner, wellness and shared nature experiences can be incorporated individually into the retreat programme. We are happy to prepare a personal quotation for retreat leaders.

Yes. Herol can be hired exclusively for weddings, retreats, seminars, family celebrations or special group stays.

The group has access to the rooms and suites in the main building and, depending on the agreement, both chalets and the communal areas. With no immediate neighbours, Herol offers a great deal of privacy and freedom for a personal event.

The main building accommodates 28 adults in its rooms and suites, with up to six additional beds. The two Herol Chalets accommodate a maximum of eight further guests in total.

Depending on room allocation and use of additional beds, up to 42 guests can stay directly at Herol. We agree the exact arrangement individually with the couple.

Herol is particularly well suited to small, personal weddings shared with the people who matter most. Depending on the season, schedule, spaces and seating arrangement, celebrations of approximately 30 to 40 guests are ideal.

Herol is generally hired exclusively for weddings, allowing the entire weekend to be enjoyed privately and personally.

A symbolic ceremony can take place, depending on the weather and arrangements, in a meadow, in the garden or in another suitable area around Herol.

The secluded location, alpine meadows and unobstructed view of the Dolomites form a natural setting for the ceremony. When planning, we consider the size of the group, the season and an appropriate wet-weather alternative.
